Adulthood Is Overrated… But Also Kind of Lit

Adulthood is overrated.

But at the same time, one of the best parts of being grown is that you have full autonomy over how you show up in your life and the decisions you make.

Today I had one of those moments where it really hit me again. I am, in fact, grown.

Not a new realization, but one that keeps popping up in different ways. Today it showed up while I was making my morning coffee.

We had two different creamers in the fridge, but only one was open. I reached for the unopened one, and out of habit, I put it back. Then I paused and literally said out loud, “I’m grown, I can have both.” Ask my wife, she was there.

And I opened it.

Now some of y’all might be like, “Okay… and?” But for those who get it, you get it.

That moment wasn’t really about creamer. It was about realizing how many habits, rules, and ways of thinking we carry from childhood that don’t actually serve us anymore.

For me, it was that small, conditioned mindset of “don’t open multiple things.” But what else am I still holding onto without questioning it?

That’s the real question.

So I want to challenge you to think about it for yourself. What beliefs, habits, or “rules” are you still following that don’t make sense for your life anymore?

For me, it was creamer today. Tomorrow? Who knows.

You can do it now. You grown. No one can stop you but you.

Mind & Mingle: A Mental Health Meetup

Mind & Mingle: A Mental Health Meetup Is Back y’all

We’ve got a date and a location, and I’m excited about this one. The goal is still the same. Creating a space where people can connect with mental health professionals in a real, comfortable way.

Whether you’re a clinician or someone who’s been thinking about starting therapy, this is a space for you.

Go ahead and secure your spot. If you’d like to attend, donate, or support through sponsorship or partnership (or know someone who might), please forward this to them or visit this link for details:

I’m hoping to make this a monthly thing, so tap in early and be part of building something special.

What I’m Reading Next

Quick question for y’all.

Has anyone read Decolonizing Therapy by Jennifer Mullan?

I just picked it up and I’m planning to start it in the next couple of weeks. If you’ve read it, let me know your thoughts. No spoilers, but let me know if it’s hitting.

Also, send me your recommendations. I’m building a reading list and I’m always looking for books that challenge perspective and expand thinking.

Affirmations for This Month

1. I am allowed to question old beliefs and choose what works for me now.
Growth starts when I stop living on autopilot.

2. I give myself permission to do things differently.
I am not bound by rules that no longer serve my life.

3. I trust myself to make decisions that align with who I am today.
I am not the same person I used to be, and that’s a good thing.

4. Small moments of awareness create big shifts over time.
Every realization moves me closer to the life I want.

5. I am free to create my own version of adulthood.
My life does not have to look like anyone else’s.

Wrap-Up

Sometimes growth doesn’t look like a big breakthrough. Sometimes it’s small moments like realizing you don’t have to follow rules that don’t apply to your life anymore.

Pay attention to those moments. That’s where the real work is happening.

If this made you think about something in your own life, I’d love to hear it. What’s one belief or habit you’re starting to question or let go of?

You’ve reached the end. Thanks for reading. If you have’t already go ahead and subscribe and lets grow this thing together. Also, do me a favor a forward this to 2-3 people who you think would enjoy reading my monthly writings. I greatly appreciate you and have a great rest of your day!
